STMicroelectronics introduces flexible and robust VIPer® controller

The STMicroelectronics VIPer222 controller can be used for high-voltage power converters up to 8W. It has a small size, low cost, and complete functions. It can be used in household appliances, building automation equipment, smart lighting and smart meters.

VIPer222 integrates functions such as error amplifier, current-sense MOSFET and high-voltage startup circuit, and can be used in a variety of mainstream converter topologies, including non-electrically isolated flyback converters; primary-side regulator or secondary-side regulator with optocoupler Isolated flyback converter; buck converter and buck-boost converter.

VIPer222 is the first product in ST's highly integrated controller series that integrates a 730V avalanche-resistant power stage, ensuring excellent reliability of the controller. In addition, it also integrates short circuit protection, overheat protection, pulse jump protection, and soft Start-up, and burst mode management circuit for improving light load energy efficiency.

To minimize the number of external components and simplify the design of the converter, the new controller also integrates many other features, such as a wide operating voltage (VCC) of 4.5V-30V, no matter how much output voltage is required, it can be easily Solve the controller power supply problem. The low starting voltage of 30V DC allows wide voltage input, and it is convenient for the controller to start when the input voltage is low. Light load power consumption is less than 40mW, making application design easier to meet energy-saving design requirements. PWM control using frequency dithering technology can use a smaller input filter.

VIPer222 is now in production and is available in a 5mm x 4mm SSOP10 package.
